Focus and Scope

"Asia Matters: Business, Culture and Theory" (AM) is an international peer-reviewed Open Access journal that publishes original research papers on current Asian business and entrepreneurship developments and Asian business developments outside Asia. Business, society and culture are seen to be closely intertwined. Thus, AM is a multi-disciplinary journal that:

  1. Encourages a contextual and situational approach to business and entrepreneurial developments in Asia and of Asian firms outside Asia.
  2. Brings together analyses of business-related developments in and beyond Asia based on an interpretive paradigm.
  3. Captures the interconnectedness of intra-business and intra-enterprise dynamics in Asia and beyond with the societal context at multiple levels including the local, national and global environment

Articles published in AM are relevant for a global audience of scholars and academically inclined professionals and practitioners. The journal accepts business-related contributions based on various methodologies such as ethnographic research, interviews, discourse analysis, and well-balanced mixed methods papers from social sciences, business studies, humanities and development studies.

In the next 8-10 months we particularly invite papers on the following themes:

  • social entrepreneurship in Asia
  • creative industries in Asia
  • Asian business in the world
  • inside Asian business
  • sustainabilities in Asia

Peer Review Process

"Asia Matters" pursues an assessment of contributions through a system of double blind reviews. Each issue is coordinated by a Lead Editor (one of the three editors-in-chief). Contributions received are subject to a first scan by the Lead Editor. The manuscript that passed the first scan will be anonymized and sent out to two reviewers. In the case of two contradicting assessments a third reviewer may be approached. The editor evaluates the reviews and informs the author of the outcome within 3 months. The outcome may be reject, revise or accept the manuscript. In case of a ‘revise’ the author will be invited to submit a revised version and respond to the comments identifying the changes made to the earlier draft.

Publication Frequency

"Asia Matters" (AM) aims to exploit the many advantages of being an Internet-based journal. We want to offer a speedier submission-to-publication process for our authors. The journal not only uses the Open Access Journal system to monitor and maintain a timely submission-review-revision-resubmission-and-acceptance process, it will roll-out articles as and when each article is ready for publication. Asia Matters readers will thus have access to new knowledge and information in a timely manner.

Publications in each year will be grouped into a single volume. And articles will be paginated consecutively within a volume.

Publication scheduling and timing:

1. You submit your manuscript online indicating the type of the article (please have a look at the themes we are interested in on the section: focus and scope)

2. Your submission goes through the review process and the decision is made, out of four options: accept submission, revision required, resubmit for review, decline submission.

3. Please, respond to the comments and indicate the changes you have made in the document in the system.

4. Eight weeks after your paper is accepted for publication, it should appear online.

  • The first phase of the copyediting process takes 4-5 weeks.
  • After this period of time, you will receive a galley proof with a query form, which you should respond to within three working days.
  • It will take another two weeks before your articles  appears online.
